Job Title: Caseworker

Working For: Diana Johnson MP (Kingston upon Hull North and Cottingham)

Location: Hull

Salary: In line with IPSA Pay Scales and commensurate with experience.


Job Details 

I am looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent organisational and time management skills to take on the role of caseworker in my Constituency Office in Hull North. You must have excellent communication and administration skills plus a can-do attitude in a fast-paced, busy political environment. This role needs a self-starter with an attention to detail and an ability to work at pace.

 

The key purpose of the role is to provide casework-related advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues through liaison with Government agencies, the voluntary sector and others. 

 

The job also includes logging any incoming policy correspondence and ensuring that responses are provided in a timely manner. 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Casework - deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public who live in the constituency by phone, email, social media, or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required.

  • Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.

  • Draft responses to constituents.

  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and assist in the team in creating reports. 

  • Assist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate.

  • Attend constituency meetings as appropriate.

  • Critically analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members.

  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation.

  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately.

  • Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases.

  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act

  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel occasionally. 

 

Additional responsibilities:

  • Community and volunteer engagement including supporting the team with arrangements for events which may involve on the day support; assist in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships.

  • Drafting and distributing communications to constituents, including surveys and policy responses, using the Policy Research Service (PRS) website and the casework management system.  Supporting administrative tasks, such as photocopying, scanning, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence.

  • Responding to enquiries by telephone, email, passing on queries to other team members / MP as appropriate. Database management using office software (e.g., Microsoft Office) to handle cases and tasks.

 

Skills required: 

  • Excellent team working and communication skills.

  • Skilled in the Microsoft Office suite.

  • Ability to work on sensitive issues with confidentiality.,

  • Proven track record of office administration.

  • A strong communicator, able to communicate messages clearly to a range of audiences at all levels – both verbally and in writing.

  • Experience of dealing with conflicting priorities in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Knowledge of Hull and issues affecting the area.

  • A commitment to Labour values.

 

Desirable knowledge and experience: 

  • Experience of working in government and / or the wider public sector.

  • Previous experience in a casework or policy-based role.

Interview/Start Dates: 

Interviews are planned for the morning of 17 October 2025.

The target start date for this role will be on or around 1 December 2025.
