Hull North and Cottingham MP Diana Johnson has changed ministerial roles in the Government reshuffle from Policing Minister to Minister of State in the Department of Work and Pensions.

Diana commented: “It has been an honour to serve as Policing Minister, working with dedicated police officers across the country and starting the Labour Government’s work restoring neighbourhood policing, introducing new powers to tackle crime and preparing major police service reforms.

“In my new role as Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), I am delighted to be part of the Government's welfare and skills reform agenda.

“This is central to lifting people out of poverty and inactivity, improving their physical and mental health and boosting economic growth in all parts of the UK. As I know from my own constituency, too many people of working age are not in work and, in particular, too many young people are not in employment, education or training.

“Labour stands for fairness. Those who can work, should work. They should be supported to be in the workplace, not left behind in the doom loop of joblessness that spiralled out of control under the Conservatives. Opportunities should be available wherever people live with a welfare system that's a springboard to getting on in life - not one that holds them back.”
