The importance of transport

Diana Johnson MP

01/04/21, 00:00

As co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary group for 'left behind' neighbourhoods, I am very pleased to share our most recent report on the importance of connectivity in communities. Too many of our communities do not have the access to the public transport they deserve, but this is especially worse for those left behind neighbourhoods.

  • 84% of 'left behind' neighbourhoods have worse overall connectivity than the England average

  • 40% of households in 'left behind' neighbourhoods have no car, compared to 26% the England average

  • Local authority-supported bus services in 'left behind' areas declined by 35 per cent over the last six years, while commercial services declined by 11 per cent

I am calling on the Government to address our findings; You can find our more about our work and how I am speaking up for Hull North here:https://www.appg-leftbehindneighbourhoods.org.uk/Or follow us on Twitter @appgleftbehind The report can be found here
