Hull's Lib Dem Council is denying thousands of local kids and pensioners free swimming this Christmas.
The Labour Government has funded the free swimming scheme to get millions of people enjoying regular exercise - but Scrooge Lib Dems refused to take the money.
The scheme is designed to get people across the country involved in regular exercise, but people in Hull are being denied help that millions of people across the country are enjoying. As a result Hull is also missing out on extra Government money to upgrade local swimming pools.
Diana Johnson MP today released a list of free swimming shame the Scrooge minority of local authorities, controlled by the Conservatives and like-minded Lib Dems, who are denying local people free swimming.
Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "The Labour Government has offered a big contribution to fund free swims and pool refurbishments for millions of people. But our Scrooge council bosses are denying this to Hull pensioners and children. Indeed, in Hull swimmers and other sports users have faced hikes in charges - in the middle of a recession.
"Regular exercise helps people of all ages stay fit, healthy and independent. It is also great for youngsters in the school holidays. It's outrageous that Hull Lib Dems, just like many like-minded Conservative councils, aren't passing on this free swimming help to Hull's children and older people."
Labour in Hull is campaigning to get Hull City Council to change its mind and offer free swimming. Local people can join the campaign by contacting Diana Johnson MP at www.dianajohnson.co.uk.
