Re-elect Diana Johnson - a strong voice for Hull North

Diana Johnson MP

28/04/17, 00:00

Hull North's Labour Candidate Diana Johnson has launched her campaign to keep her Hull North seat with a message to constituents.

Diana Johnson said: "On 8th June you have a big decision on who you want standing up for you in Parliament.

"I'm asking for your vote again to allow me to continue being a strong and effective voice for Hull North.

"Unlike the Lib Dems, I don't believe that the Brexit vote should be ignored - but neither should the challenges our country faces.

"That's why I voted in Parliament to trigger Brexit.

"I will speak up for you to get the best Brexit deal for Hull.

"We need a Brexit deal that safeguards jobs, living standards and workers' rights a deal that gives firms like Siemens the access to the European markets they need.

"I also want the promises made on immigration kept. I have always worked hard to stand up for Hull, to bring jobs and investment to the city and win City of Culture. But I always speak up when Hull isn't being treated fairly.

"Under the Tory and Lib Dem governments since 2010 Hull hasn't been getting a fair deal.

"London gets 10 times more per head spent on transport than Hull. Tories are making it worse blocking Hull's privately funded rail electrification scheme.

"Hull's schools are facing cuts of £540 per pupil under Tory plans.

"Hull City Council has had its government funding slashed in half since 2010, while wealthy Surrey recently got extra funding for social care.

"Crime and anti-social behaviour are rising, but Government cuts have left Hull with the fewest police officers since the 1970s.

"If re-elected, I'll continue fighting for our city. Whoever's in government after 8th June, Hull North has never needed a strong Labour voice more.

"As your MP, I'll always put you first. I'll fight to protect local schools and hospitals.

"I'll always put our national security first. We must defend our country and our NHS.

"I hope you'll support me on 8th June."
