Hull North MP Diana Johnson today claimed victory in her campaign to reopen Bransholme North Post Office.

The Post Office announced today that the Post Office will reopen at its Lothian Way site from 2 October. This follows it 'temporary closure' on 30 May, due to management difficulties.

The Hull North MP had recently been in correspondence with the Post Office regarding the closure and appealed for potential sub-postmasters to contact the Post Office Agency Recruitment Team to enable the early reopening of this Post Office. The MP expressed concern about the difficulty caused to many local people when left without Post Office branch facilities within walking distance of their homes - especially in such a remote part of Hull as Bransholme.

Diana Johnson is still pressing the Post Office about the future of Stoneferry Post Office, which has been closed, again on a 'temporary basis', since 3 July.

Diana Johnson MP said: "I am pleased to have helped the Post Office in their efforts to reopen North Bransholme Post Office and that we have now secured the restoration of this vital local facility for many local residents and businesses.

"It is unacceptable for local people, especially in the more isolated pasts of Hull, to be left without a Post Office within a reasonable walking distance of their home. I therefore hope that we will now also achieve the reopening of Stoneferry Post Office as soon as possible.

"The Post Office provides a key public service that Labour wants to see modernised - not privatised, as the Lib Dems advocate."
