Diana Johnson, Labour MP for Hull North, has welcomed today's Budget Statement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Diana Johnson MP said: "Today's Budget secures the recovery rather than putting it at risk. It builds a future based on growth, skills and jobs rather than leaving people to a decade of austerity.
"It sets out a clear plan to halve the deficit while protecting frontline services and our economic future."
The Hull North MP also challenged local Conservatives, as the only other party that could form a government after the General Election, to come clean about their plans.
"My Tory opponent in Hull North Victoria Aitken must now say how her party would meet the challenge that we have set in this Budget.
"How much would the Tories cut from spending in 2010/11?
"How quickly would the Tories halve the deficit?
"By how much would the Tories reduce the longer term deficit?
"We've set out our plan. It is time for Victoria Aitken to come clean."
