MP welcomes boost for flood hardship relief

Diana Johnson MP

12/07/07, 00:00

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today welcomed the £2.1 million boost from the Government for hardship relief to those most affected by the recent flooding.

The £2.1 million for Hull was announced by the Government today as Hull's part of an initial allocation of Government money going directly to 34 local authorities in flood-hit areas for immediate hardship relief.

Diana Johnson MP said: "This is immediate hardship relief to assist those who lost everything in the flood.

"It is now for Hull City Council to get this money to where it's needed as efficiently as possible, along with all the voluntary donations that have been made to help flood victims.

"This money is the initial part of Government aid to Hull and should not be confused with the other financial contributions that will be needed - for example in areas such as school repairs and re-equipment - once accurate figures of the costs not covered by insurance are known."
