Hull North MP Diana Johnson has thanked Hull people for voting Labour in Thursday's local elections as Labour gained 11 seats to take control of Hull City Council.
The Lib Dems lost 10 seats to Labour.
Diana Johnson MP said: "I would like to thank people all over Hull for voting Labour and I welcome all the new Labour councillors to Labour's team serving Hull.
"It's clear that Hull City Council has a tough task due to the depth of cuts from the Tory-led Government, supported by the previous Lib Dem Council, that are aimed most at the most vulnerable people in the most deprived communities.
"But I look forward to working with a Labour Council that will do everything possible to implement alternative budget plans that will provide the maximum possible protection to the services that are vital to local people and to Hull's local economy."
