Hull North MP Diana Johnson has congratulated the players, management and staff of Hull City following their first-ever promotion to football's top division.

The Tigers' 1-0 victory in the Championship play-off final against Bristol City, held at Wembley Stadium today (24 May), brings Premiership football to Hull next season, starting in August. Top flight teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool will be regular visitors to the KC Stadium and Hull City will play at the most famous grounds in the country.

This is the third promotion won by Hull City this decade since the KC Stadium was built in partnership with the former Labour Council in Hull.

Diana Johnson MP said: "Congratulations to everyone at Hull City for making Hull a Premiership city.

"This historic achievement is a great boost for the city, bringing in many millions of extra revenue. It should finally lay to rest any doubts about the wisdom of building the KC Stadium an inspired investment!

"The Tigers will now have to spend well to strengthen the squad as they seek to become firmly established in the Premiership. This is football's biggest step up in class and will be a challenge - but the whole city will be rooting for them."
