Eleven year old Lauren Fenton of Sidmouth Primary School has won the annual competition for Hull North Primary School pupils to design Diana Johnson MP's official Christmas card.
Competition Judge Lara King, the BBC Radio Humberside presenter, announced the news today (11 December) live on her radio show after Lauren's winning design was selected from hundreds of entries.
The Hull North MP and Schools Minister is sending Lauren's winning Christmas card design to hundreds of people across the country; including constituents, local, regional and national figures in charities, business, the media and politics - including the Prime Minister.
Next Tuesday (15 December), Lauren will be delivering her winning card design to 10 Downing Street when she travels, courtesy of competition sponsor Hull Trains, to Westminster. After visiting Downing Street, Lauren and her family will meet Diana for tea at the House of Commons.
Lauren and the competition's runners up have been invited by Hull City to attend the Tigers' Premiership match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (12 December) at the KC Stadium.
Hull's BBC Open Centre in Queen's Gardens also has a pre-Christmas display of the original artwork from the competition entries.
Diana Johnson MP said: "Early in the autumn school term I asked Hull North primary school pupils to design my official 2009 Christmas card. Today I announce that Lauren Fenton of Sidmouth Primary School is a worthy competition winner.
"This is the fifth Christmas that I have held this competition for Hull North primary schools. It always produces a better and brighter Christmas card than the run-ofthe-mill ones from the shops.
"There are great prizes for the winner and the runners up, for which I thank our local sponsors. I also thank the BBC's Lara King for choosing the winner. Above all, I thank the hundreds of Hull North children and their teachers who make this competition possible. I look forward to welcoming Lauren and her family to Westminster."
