Hull North MP Diana Johnson has praised Ed Miliband's pledge to modernise apprenticeships and vocational education.

In his Leader's speech to Labour's Conference in Manchester, Ed Miliband today promised that a Labour government would work with business to reform Britain's system of education and apprenticeship to match the skills needed in the 21st Century.

Diana Johnson MP said: "Ed Miliband's priority to work with business to rebuild our education and apprenticeships system is massively relevant to us in Hull.

"With Hull's future as a hub for green energy technology and so many competing for each job at the moment, we need to make sure that our Hull youngsters are equipped to get the new skilled jobs that we hope will be Hull's future.

"In contrast to the vested interests, broken promises and tax cuts for millionaires that we're getting from this Lib Dem-backed Coalition, Ed Miliband set out the first of Labour's plans for fairness in tough times, boosting growth and getting young people into work and ready for the jobs of the future."
