Hull North Diana Johnson MP has welcomed the decision by Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust to keep open the Jubilee Birth Centre.

After opening in 2003, the Centre's future has been uncertain pending the outcome of a review by the local NHS Trust.

Diana Johnson MP said: "I have made several representations on behalf of local people about the Jubilee Birth Centre after receiving their letters about it. I visited Hull's Women and Children's Hospital recently and a visit to the Jubilee Birth Centre is planned in April.

"I welcome this news. The local NHS Trust has obviously judged that there will be adequate future demand for the Centre's services and that it will be able to provide the value for money that taxpayers expect in return for the public investment that has gone in.

"It is now up to the local community to carry on supporting the Centre so that there is no doubt about its future again."
