Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson has welcomed measures set out in this week's Queen's Speech as "in tune with the modern aspirations of Hull people".
The Queen's Speech, the first since Gordon Brown became Prime Minister, sets out the Labour Government's programme of legislation for the next parliamentary year.
Diana Johnson MP said: "This week saw the traditional parliamentary occasion of the Queen's Speech. Beneath all the pomp and ceremony is the serious business of a Labour Government responding to the rising aspirations of the Britain's hard-working families and supporting those who play by the rules.
"The key objectives of delivering new opportunities and security for all are in tune with the modern aspirations of Hull people.
"As well as measures on affordable housing, the NHS, education and the action to combat terrorism and illegal immigration, I am especially pleased that the Government will be taking the historic step of introducing our first-ever Climate Change Bill.
"After Liberal Democrats and Tories in the European Parliament recently led moves to water down EU proposals on cutting CO2 emissions from cars, it is even more vital that our Labour Government continues providing international leadership on climate change. This is why the Climate Change Bill will be so vital.
"I look forward to working on this legislative programme at Westminster and letting people in Hull know how Labour will help them realise their aspirations."
