Hull North MP Diana Johnson today highlighted the Coalition's proposed 'modernisation' of the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA).
The Labour MP called on Ministers to ensure equal access to further and higher education for disabled students in Hull.
Currently, there are 9,185 students in the Yorkshire and Humber region receiving DSA, and the National Union of Students has warned that their support is at risk after the Government announced a so-called 'modernisation' of the crucial benefit.
Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "With the University of Hull being in my Hull North constituency, any further cuts to student support that restricts access to higher education is a great concern to me.
"This latest attack on student opportunities comes after the Coalition's tripling of tuition fees and their abolition of the Educational Maintenance Allowance.
"In 2012/13, 1468 Hull Students received the Disabled Student's Allowance and without it many may not be able to continue their studies."
Diana Johnson MP vowed to support Labour efforts to ensure that disabled students are disproportionally affected by these cuts from BIS.
