Hull MP protests at Coalition cuts being made to trains in North to help South

Diana Johnson MP

Diana Johnson MP today protested in the Commons about news of cuts being made to Transpennine rail services serving Hull in order to improve rail services in Southern England.

The Hull North MP also cited some other examples of unfair treatment of the North, such as over the recent flooding.

Diana Johnson MP told the Commons: "I am very pleased that we will have a debate next week about the removal of railway rolling stock from the north to improve services in the south, but may we have a wider debate on exactly what the coalition Government have got against the North, and to look at the cuts to major northern cities and northern arts funding, and the delay in giving any assistance to areas of the north that flooded in December?"

The exchange took place in Business Questions in the House of Commons today.
