To mark the 65th anniversary of the founding of the NHS on 5 July, Hull North MP Diana Johnson has called on Hull people to celebrate this incredible institution.

The appeal came as Labour MPs gathered at Westminster to send the NHS birthday wishes.

The NHS today is suffering from an A&E crisis, which is why Diana Johnson MP is asking Hull people to visit www.labour.org.uk/nhs-crisis and join Labour's campaign calling on David Cameron to keep his promise to protect our health service.

Here in Hull, staffing shortages have left Hull hospitals overstretched, with experts warning that services across the country could fail by the winter if urgent action isn't taken.

The Yorkshire Region has already lost 1,110 nurses since David Cameron became Prime Minster in 2010 and these cuts are making it harder to maintain the services that local people rely on.

Diana Johnson MP said: "I've spoken to both patients and health workers in Hull and they've told me that they're worried about the future of the NHS. I know first-hand how amazing our NHS is, but it needs protecting so that future generations can get health-care provided on the basis of need.

"That's is why I'm asking Hull people to join our campaign at www.labour.org.uk/nhs-crisis to send a message to David Cameron and his Lib Dem Coalition allies that our health service deserves better than their broken promises, especially the wasteful and unwanted NHS reorganisation.

"Labour created the NHS in 1948. It's one of our proudest achievements. Its 65th birthday is an opportunity to celebrate. But if we're going to commemorate further milestones we need to ensure that our NHS is saved and strengthened for the future."
