Hull MP backs battle against AIDS

Attending a World AIDS Day event at Hull's Guildhall today (Friday 2 December), Hull North MP Diana Johnson gave her support to the UK's commitment to fight AIDS.

Diana Johnson MP said: "I am delighted to support campaigners in Hull working to beat AIDs and show our continuing solidarity to those in Britain and around the world suffering from the illness and all the stigma, ignorance and prejudice that has surrounded it.

"A further £27.5 million for global AIDS prevention has been announced by the Prime Minister. This yet again shows the UK's commitment on World AIDS Day to tackling the world's fourth biggest killer. We are giving £20 million to the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and £7.5 million to the International Partnership of Microbicides.

"This builds on the solid progress achieved at this Gleneagles G8 Summit's where world leaders agreed to make fighting AIDS and HIV a priority.

"These are yet more achievements for the people in Hull who have campaigned so long and hard through movements like the 'Stop AIDS Campaign'. Your pressure has made a difference."
