Hull A&E gets 'sticking plaster' funding

Diana Johnson MP

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to news that Hull NHS A&E will get £2m of extra funding to help with pressures this Winter.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "The £2m that's been announced is better than last Winter when Hull A&E didn't get a penny of the £250m that was allocated.

"Today's better news comes after I've been protesting regularly in Parliament all year about the Government's unfair treatment of Hull last Winter.

"However, the funding has been described by health professionals such as the BMA as a 'sticking plaster', not compensating for the £3bn wasted in the Coalition's top-down NHS reorganisation.

"We've seen worrying signs recently of Hull's NHS struggling to cope - even before the Winter gets underway properly. We've had patients redirected from Hull A&E to Scarborough and a 92% increase in operations being cancelled. There's also more pressure on A&Es due to the greater difficulty local people are having getting GP appointments."
