Diana Johnson MP's dog George enters Westminster Dog of the Year 2005

George the seven year old Black Labrador belonging to Diana Johnson Labour MP for Hull North, has entered the Westminster Dog of the Year 2005 Competition for dogs owned by MPs and Lords. The winner will be announced at 12 noon on Thursday 27 October at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster.

According to Diana, George is a very loyal companion and protector; a Parliamentary dog of distinction. Not only is he gorgeous he is also friendly and loves gardening! George is a charitable dog who raised £137 recently for Hull and East Riding Institute for the Blind (HERIB) by doing a sponsored walk across the Humber Bridge. He is hoping his good charitable deeds will put him in good stead to be able to emulate the success of last years' winner Zack, a Bedlington Terrier owned by Vera Baird QC MP.

Organised jointly by Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club, the Westminster Dog of the Year competition promotes responsible dog ownership and highlights the unique relationship between dog and owner. Entries are open to dogs from different backgrounds - whether they are crossbreed or pedigree. The dogs are judged on their personality and good deeds rather than their political preferences and looks!

Not only will the winning dog receive the accolade 'Westminster Dog of the Year 2005' and the Westminster Dog of the Year Trophy, but the winner will also be invited to Crufts 2006.
