Council tax discount deadline looms for Hull flood victims

Diana Johnson MP

With less than a week to go before the deadline for applications, Hull North MP Diana Johnson today urged Hull's flood victims to claim their council tax discount.

A deadline of 31 August was set recently by Hull City Council in launching its council tax discount scheme. Hull City Council has asked residents to contact 01482 300300 to register their details if they have not already received or returned the required application form.

Diana Johnson MP said: "After the Lib Dem Council took the decision not to make a simple and equal payment to every flooded household from the Government's flood hardship money for Hull, this council tax rebate will be the only financial help that many flood victims will get most notably homeowners with insurance.

"It is therefore even more important that local people affected by flooding claim what they are entitled to before 31 August 2007.

"At this time of year, when many are away on holiday, the deadline required by this scheme is extremely tight and adds another bureacratic burden for my constituents affected by flooding. However, I urge everyone to make their application in time."
