Coalition NHS reorganisation hits Hull's health services

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to today's report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) showing failings in Hull's local NHS.

The inspection report highlighted full A&Es, untrained doctors and staffing shortages damaging patient care at two hospitals in Hull.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "These inspection reports always need to be studied in detail.

"However, it's clear that after having the highest patient satisfaction ratings in its history in 2010, the NHS has been put into severe difficulties by the Coalition's £3bn top-down NHS reorganisation.

"This expensive exercise was not in the Coalition Agreement, nor flagged up in the 2010 Lib Dem and Tory manifestos put before voters. As a result of it, we are seeing frontline cuts, cancelled operations and worse services for NHS patients.

"The report highlights staff shortages in A&E. Last Autumn, the Coalition gave £250m extra to mitigate the Winter A&E crisis around the country. Hull didn't get a penny. Yet again, Hull's not getting a fair deal from this Government."
