Hull North MP Diana Johnson has welcomed good news for Hull's war veterans as the government announced a funding boost for key projects.
The £2million Veterans' Challenge Fund has boosted work to raise awareness of veterans and provide support for them. One example is the Fund's sponsorship of a yacht crew of British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association members, which is competing this month in the Atlantic 2005 Challenge Race from the Canaries to the West Indies.
Veterans Minister Don Touhig has announced that, because of its success over its initial three years, it will continue indefinitely. The fund will continue with another £750,000 next year, the same funding as 2004 and 2005.
Diana Johnson MP said " As we remember the sacrifices so many made serving our country, we must continue supporting all veterans, young and old.
"This fund gives valuable help to vital projects, and I am delighted it is being continued. I hope our local veterans' organisations in Hull can take advantage of the fund."
