Hull's first female Member of Parliament has welcomed the installation of the first woman to hold the position of Chancellor at the University of Hull.
The Hull North MP attended yesterday's ceremony (12 April) to appoint Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone as the fifth Chancellor in the University's history.
Diana was also shown the impressive results of recent investment in improving facilities at the University's Business School.
Diana Johnson MP said: "Hull University's continued success is central to the wider regeneration of Hull in the modern economy. It is encouraging that the University will have such a high-profile and enthusiastic ambassador as Chancellor.
"With state funding for higher education increasing by £2 billion between 2004 and 2008, and university applications in healthier shape than a decade ago, the future for Hull University looks bright.
"I hope that more students from Hull's improving local secondary schools will come through in the years ahead to continue their education at the University of Hull."
