Help me with my Xmas cards Hull MP asks children

Hull North MP Diana Johnson is holding a competition asking local primary schoolchildren to design her official Parliamentary Xmas card.

The finished Xmas cards will be sent to hundreds of people across the country; from constituents, family and friends to regional and national figures in charities, business and politics - including the Prime Minister.

Entries need to be finished by 14 October and will be collected from the participating schools. Adam Pearson, Chairman of Hull City AFC, has agreed to judge the competition and the winning entry will then be printed at Hull printers Palm Press in time for December.

The winning entry will receive a trip to London, donated by Hull Trains, for the child and their family (up to four), to meet Diana at Westminster and hand in the winning card to Ten Downing Street.

Another winner will get the chance to spend a day at the Hull Daily Mail learning about being a journalist, with the chance of having their work published.

Other prizes have been donated by Hull City AFC and all the children entering will get a certificate to recognise their efforts.

Diana Johnson MP said: "I wanted something a bit different from the usual pictures of Big Ben that you see on Xmas cards from MPs. Having seen great artistic talent in many Hull schools, I thought it would be a great idea to have a competition among our local primary schools to design me a Xmas card.

"I have contacted all the primary schools in my Hull North constituency and many have already said that they will join in the spirit of the occasion - and there is still time for the others to join in by contacting me through my new Hull office on 01482 319135.

"I look forward to some creative and colourful designs. There will be great prizes for the winners thanks to Hull Trains, Hull City AFC, Hull Daily Mail and Palm Press, and every child who enters will receive a certificate."
