Treasury Minister sounds clueless on Hull rail electrification

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to comments made on BBC TV Look North yesterday by the Lib Dem Treasury Chief Secretary about rail electrification to Hull.

On a visit to Hull the Lib Dem Treasury Minister had expressed doubt about whether the Selby to Hull rail line would be electrified in time for Hull’s year as City of Culture in 2017, due to current Government funding allocations having been already made.

Hull delegation pushes Transport Secretary on rail electrification

Diana Johnson MP was among the cross-party delegation of Hull and East Riding MPs, Hull councillors and representatives of the local business community who met the Transport Secretary today.

The delegation was at the Department of Transport to ask Patrick McLoughlin MP to back the privately financed Hull Trains bid to secure electrification of railway lines into Hull in time for the 2017 City of Culture.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to today's Autumn Statement by the Chancellor.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: “It was good to see the Chancellor starting to respond to Labour pressure on Business Rates, just as it was on pay day loans, fuel duty and energy prices. The Coalition has also copied the free school meals policy first pioneered by Labour in Hull, which Lib Dems and Tories had spent years denying was successful, despite all the evidence.
