Clegg: No Hull rail electrification until after City of Culture

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to today’s comments from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg that rail lines into Hull will not be electrified until the 2020s.

Diana Johnson MP said: “In putting off Hull rail electrification to the 2020s, Nick Clegg is abandoning any aspiration to get it done in time for Hull’s 2017 City of Culture.

Hull ignored by ‘High Speed Three’

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to the Chancellor’s comments today about having a ‘High Speed Three’ rail link between Manchester and Leeds – ignoring Hull.

Diana Johnson MP said: “It’s good to know that Ministers are thinking about having a long term vision for transport that recognises that it’s currently quicker to travel between London and Paris than between Liverpool and Hull.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to a new Department of Transport consultation document effecting rail electrification to Hull.

Diana Johnson MP said: “In March, the Transport Secretary gave the impression to Parliament and the media that there was a fair chance that Hull rail electrification would be done in time for 2017 City of Culture, rather than waiting with other schemes not to be started until after 2019, if at all.
