Hull MP appointed to key government watchdog

Hull North's Labour MP Diana Johnson has been appointed to the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee.

This prestigious committee examines reports from the National Audit Office on the economy, efficency and effectiveness of government departments and other public bodies. The committee looks at the successes and failures of service delivery on subjects as diverse as dentistry, homelessness and renewable energy.

The committee meets twice weekly when Parliament is sitting and produces around 50 reports per year, twice as many as any other Parliamentary committee.

Diana Johnson MP said: "I am delighted to have been appointed to this important committee and look forward to srutinising a diverse range of topics across the full range of Whitehall departments during this Parliament."

"It is a great opportunity for me to play a role in testing whether Government services are delivered effectively for my constituents in Hull North."
