Diana welcomes Amy Johnson's 'Jason' replica to its new Hull home

Diana Johnson MP spoke at an event to mark the successful campaign to keep the replica of Amy Johnson's 'Jason' in Hull.
Following the London Science Museum's refusal in 2016 to loan the original 'Jason' Gipsy Moth - the airplane in which Amy Johnson made her historic 1930 solo flight to Australia - to Hull for UK City of Culture 2017, inmates at Hull Prison built a replica that was displayed at Hull Paragon Station during 2017.
The Ministry of Justice announced in Autumn 2017 that this replica was to be sent permanently out of Hull to the National Air Musuem near York. After Hull MPs protested, this decision was changed.
The replica 'Jason' will now stay in Hull at St.Stephen's Shopping Centre.
In welcoming 'Jason' to its new home, Diana Johnson called for Amy Johnson to received greater recognition in Hull for her pioneering achievements.
