Hull MP seeks pledge from Transport Secretary on Crossrail for the North

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today extracted a Commons pledge from Transport Secretary Chris Grayling that Crossrail for the North between Liverpool and Hull will happen at the same time as Crossrail 2 – between Surrey and Hertfordshire – for London.

The petition of residents of Kingston upon Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.Declares that residents believe that skilled defence manufacturing jobs at BAE Systems in Brough are of vital strategic importance for the defence and security of the United Kingdom.

BAE jobs campaign

Diana Johnson MP is campaigning to save 400 skilled local jobs that are under threat at BAE Systems in Brough and has asked the Government to renew the 1970s-built Red Arrows fleet to help save the jobs. If the BAE Systems Brough site closes it would mean any new Red Arrows fleets would have to be bought abroad and a loss of sovereign defence manufacturing capability in the UK.

Diana was out in Hull's Queen Victoria Square supporting trade unions from BAE Systems at Brough in their campaign to collect signatures for a petition to renew the Red Arrows fleets and save defence manufacturing jobs.
