I have been very moved by the kind words and messages I have received from so many wonderful Hull North people. It really is a privilege to represent such people. Although, I agree with your report (Mail, 8 May) that the Lib Dem campaign against me was highly personal, I do take issue on one point. At the end of the unnecessary recount I did shake hands with the losing Lib Dem candidate in the traditional way. At the same time we exchanged a...

I have received many thoughtful comments on key issues. These include the types of housing built, the balance between new homes and those to be demolished, and whether there should be a net loss of 685 council homes, as proposed by the Lib Dem Council, in a city with 13,000 on the housing waiting list. After recently asking Mail readers to believe that the Taliban's international networks have had no connection with terrorist attacks in the UK, Mr Healy now seeks to reassure us that funding for housing schemes started by the Labour Government would be safe under the Tory government that he appears to hope for in 2010. In fact, only Labour is committed to this investment in Orchard Park. This is not just because improvements in Orchard Park are long overdue, but because of the boost to local skills and jobs that the scheme will help provide over the next decade. LETTER FOR PUBLICATION
1 November 2006
Dear Editor,
A Jackson (Mail letters, 1 November) raises the issue of the number of letters that my staffed offices in Hull and Westminster send to my Hull North constituents, and makes the comparison with pensions. I am pleased that the Labour Government has acted in a range of ways to help the poorest pensioners since 1997 and has announced that it will restore the link, broken under the Tories, between the basic state pension and earnings.
On the unrelated...

 LETTER FOR PUBLICATION
28 February 2007
Dear Editor,
Cllr Carl Minns is not such a delicate flower that he needs sympathy from Reg Deller (Mail letters, 28 February). Cllr Minns made no complaints to me about our recent television interviews about free school food.
However, I have a right to challenge the Lib Dems when they seek to mislead the public. The Lib Dems regard the doubling of the take-up in primary schools of healthier food as a failure, while blaming Government funding for their wish...

Dear Editor,
Leconfield’s Denis Healy (Mail letters, 10 April) seems to be agitated by my support for improved protective equipment for our servicemen and women currently engaged in UN-sanctioned operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Even before the launch of the ‘Troops in Peril’ petition by the Mail, I had written to the Secretary of State for Defence raising this issue on behalf of Hull North constituents, which obviously does not include Mr Healy in Leconfield. I called for the earliest possible deployment of the Mastiff armoured vehicles that have been ordered for our forces. These come as part of the...
