Dear Editor,
Yorkshire Water’s assurances in your article “We won’t let you be flooded again” (Mail, 7 September) are a step in the right direction.
I have seen the 50-year old local pumping station serving Kingswood and Bransholme for myself. Having spoken to and visited many local residents who were affected by June’s flooding, I am pleased
that Yorkshire Water intends to keep the temporary pumps in place in case of future breakdowns at this pumping station.
However, the retention of temporary pumps is only the first of two demands that local people have. Local people, not least those now having problems with insurance companies, need the confidence
and reassurance that can only be provided by a permanent upgrade of this local pumping station.
Yorkshire Water is, as they say, “working on possible long-term improvements to the station”. This involves preparing their next five year investment plan. It is reasonable for local people
to see this as an opportunity to secure the investment to solve the problems at this pumping station for the long term.
This is why I recently launched a petition with local residents to give Yorkshire Water a clear understanding of residents’ demands to modernise this pumping station. Until this investment is
secured, I call on all local residents to sign the petition by either contacting my office on 01482 319135 or signing online at www.dianajohnson.co.uk.
Yours sincerely,
